Manager Skills Assessment Instrument (MSAI)

Get ready for a powerful new tool designed to solve one of your core training needs: measuring and maximizing the impact of your LifeLabs Learning training programs.

What is the Manager Skills Assessment Instrument?

scientifically validated assessment tool designed to capture learners' competencies pre-training and measure post-training impacts on participants and their direct reports.

    • Our assessment is built on the scientifically validated Manager Skills Assessment Instrument (MSAI) developed by Dr. Kim Cameron.
    • The competencies measured in this assessment are mapped to LifeLabs Learning Behaviors, Tools, and Tipping Point Skills™ to deepen the link up between our approach and the results.
    • The survey includes 60 questions and should take folks 10-15 minutes to complete.

Who takes the assessment?

LifeLabs will survey three groups for each manager who will receive an MSAI report:

    • The learner enrolled in LifeLabs training (i.e., the manager themself completes a self-evaluation)
    • The learner's direct report(s)
    • The learner's manager(s)

These 3 perspectives enable us to most effectively assess learners' competencies pre- and post-training.

User experience flow

Pre-training: before your learner's program begins

  1. You purchase the Manager Skills Assessment Instrument surveys for your learner(s).
  2. You share names and emails of both learners and evaluators (i.e., the managers being assessed, and their direct reports) with LifeLabs.
  3. LifeLabs triggers assessment surveys to both learners and their evaluators.
  4. Recipients complete survey.
  5. LifeLabs complies and shares two reports:
    1. a personal report for the learner,
    2. an aggregated cohort report for the sponsor.

Note: Evaluator feedback will remain anonymous.

Post-training: after learner's program is completed

  1. LifeLabs triggers assessment surveys to both learners and their evaluators.
  2. Recipients complete survey.
  3. LifeLabs complies and shares two reports:
    1. a personal report for the learner,
    2. an aggregated cohort report for the sponsor.

Note: Evaluator feedback will remain anonymous.

MSAI Reports

Here's an example report. The report is approximately 22-25 pages (depending on the number and length of qualitative comments) and includes:

    • an overview,
    • a list of both the participant's strengths and their areas for opportunity,
    • a personal development plan with specific recommendations to improve competencies,
    • average scores for each of the quantitative questions,
    • qualitative comments from the free response questions, and
    • an appendix with a Tipping Point Skills™ / competencies matrix and detailed descriptions of the competencies measured in the report.
